The Ionic wood capital is carved in deep relief with a rising acanthus leaf and scroll motif. These capitals are hand-carved by skilled craftsman from premium selected hardwood: maple, alder, lindenwood, cherry, and come in three different sizes. These wood capitals are carved in deep relief design to achieve the highest degree of quality and details. Our Ionic carved wood capitals are triple sanded, ready to accept stain or paint.

These corbels are hand-carved so they have some very minor errors in the design. Also, one side of a corbel has concave, natural wood imperfections in it. That could have been avoided if the board with the imperfections had been moved to the interior or swapped out for a board without imperfections when the wood was made into a thick piece from gluing many boards together. We can use wood putty to fix the concave imperfections. However, it does make us worry a bit about the quality of the interior boards if this board was considered good enough to be on the outside edge. One good thing is that although the backside of the corbel—that will be hidden after installation —shows that the corbel was made from many boards glued together, the front of the corbel does not reveal that the corbel was made from multiple boards. We were excited to receive the corbels for our remodel and they did not disappoint. We are very happy with our purchase and just hope they have the strength needed to do their job adequately. We think they will, so we recommend this product.
